Access control

Membership and access, working as one.

Connect GymFront to compatible existing hardware or let us coordinate a complete new access installation for doors, gates and turnstiles.

Hardware compatibility, credential options and offline operation are confirmed during the site assessment.

Works with: Doors · Turnstiles · Speed gates · Internal zones · Reception scanners · Multi-site access

Two engagement paths

Two ways in.

Whether there’s already an access system on site or nothing but a front-door key, the work is scoped the same way: assess first, promise second.

Path one

Integrate an existing system

If there’s already access hardware on site, keeping what works is the starting position — confirmed, not assumed.

  1. Discovery call, then a site and hardware assessment.

  2. We identify the controllers, readers, credentials and entry equipment in place.

  3. The supported integration method is confirmed — including what can be retained.

  4. Any required edge device, controller or reader changes are agreed up front.

  5. Bench testing first, then commissioning on site.

  6. Credential migration where technically and operationally possible.

We never promise universal compatibility. What can be kept is confirmed by the assessment, not assumed — and anything that can’t be kept is named before you commit.

Path two

Deliver a new installation

Starting from nothing but a front door? One coordinated project from survey to handover.

  1. Site survey.

  2. Door, gate and turnstile requirements agreed.

  3. Hardware specified for the site.

  4. Installation and wiring by approved installers — safety and regulated work considered.

  5. Software configuration, then commissioning and handover.

  6. Ongoing support responsibilities agreed before we leave.

Safety-critical and regulated work is carried out by approved installers — GymFront coordinates the project end to end.

Entrance types

Every kind of entrance.

01

External and internal doors

Front doors, studio doors and controlled internal areas.

02

Turnstiles

Full-height and waist-height lanes for unstaffed entry.

03

Speed gates

Fast, supervised or unsupervised lanes for busy entrances.

04

Barriers and gates

Where the site and hardware support them.

05

Reception check-in

Front-desk scanning alongside, or instead of, controlled entry.

06

Controlled zones

Pools, saunas, PT areas, staff rooms — rules per area.

07

Multi-site access

One membership, the right doors at every location it includes.

Something else on site? Bring it to the assessment — that’s what the survey is for.

Automatic permission lifecycle

Access that follows the membership.

When a member’s membership or payment status changes, the access permissions you’ve configured change with it — no separate door-system member list to keep in step.

Grace periods and retry rules are your configuration, not ours — a single failed payment never has to mean an automatic lockout unless that’s the rule you’ve set.

  1. A member joins or changes plan

The membership record is the single source of truth.

  2. Membership and payment status is evaluated

Against the rules you've configured — including grace periods.

  3. The correct access permission is issued

No duplicate member list in a separate door system.

  4. The member presents their credential

App QR, card, fob or PIN — whatever the entrance supports.

  5. Entry is granted or denied, and recorded

Every entry event is visible to your team.

  6. Changes update access automatically

Freezes, cancellations, plan changes and your configured payment rules flow through to the door without manual edits.

Credentials

How members get in.

GymFront member app

Secure, rotating QR entry from the member's phone.

Cards

Existing cards where compatible, or newly issued ones.

Fobs

Existing fobs where compatible, or newly issued ones.

PIN / keypad

Keypad entry where the installed hardware supports it.

Available credential options depend on the validated hardware at each entrance — confirmed during the site assessment.

Resilience and safety

The 5am questions.

If you run a 24/7 site, these questions matter more than any feature list. We answer every one of them for your specific installation during the assessment — because honest answers depend on the controllers, network and power arrangements at your site, not on a marketing page.

What keeps working if the internet drops?

Installations are typically designed to keep making entry decisions locally — we confirm exactly what your site does, and put it in writing.

Are permissions cached locally at the door?

That depends on the controllers involved. The assessment tells you precisely what is held where, rather than leaving it to hope.

What happens in a power cut — and is battery backup specified?

Battery or UPS provision is a survey decision, made explicitly for your site rather than assumed.

How is emergency egress kept independent and safe?

Always independent of the access system — a life-safety requirement, designed in from the survey.

What happens if a controller fails?

We agree the failure behaviour and the recovery route for your specific hardware up front, not after the first fault.

How are entry events reconciled after reconnection?

We confirm how your controllers report entries made during an outage, so your entry records don’t quietly go missing.

Who do I call for hardware vs software?

GymFront, either way. Software is ours end-to-end; hardware faults are coordinated with the installer responsible, so you’re never refereeing suppliers.

Compatibility

No logo wall. Validated compatibility only.

We validate compatibility system by system rather than publishing a logo wall we can't stand behind. Tell us what's installed — controllers, readers, credentials — and we'll assess it honestly, including what can be kept and what can't.

As systems pass bench testing and site validation, they’ll be listed here — and not before.

Free consultation

Book a free access consultation.

Tell us what you run and what’s on the doors today. We’ll come back within one working day to arrange a short call, then a site assessment if it makes sense. No obligation, no hard sell.

Prefer to start on the phone? Call 07719 718 776.

We’ll call to arrange the assessment.

The site you’d like assessed.

Which is closest to your situation?
About your current setup“I don’t know” is a fine answer — whatever you can tell us speeds up the assessment.

Controller or reader models, if known.

For example: front door, turnstile, studio doors.

Site quirks, opening plans, current frustrations — anything useful.

Access FAQ

Straight answers on access.

Anything site-specific gets a proper answer at the assessment — these are the ones we can answer honestly from here.

Can I keep my existing turnstile?
If it's compatible, that's the plan. We assess the controller and reader hardware behind it and confirm what can be retained during the site assessment. We don't promise universal compatibility — but "rip it all out" is never our starting position.
Can members keep their existing fobs or cards?
Where the credential format is compatible and credentials can be migrated safely, yes. It depends on the existing readers and how the credentials were issued — we confirm this during the assessment.
Do you supply hardware?
Yes. For new installations we specify and supply the controllers, readers, locks, gates or turnstiles the site needs, as part of one coordinated project.
Do you arrange installation?
Yes — survey, hardware, installation, commissioning and connection to GymFront are coordinated through one accountable team. Specialist and regulated work is carried out by approved installers.
Can access work without the internet?
Access installations are typically designed so entry decisions keep working locally during a connection loss. Because behaviour depends on the controllers and configuration at your site, the offline behaviour for your installation is confirmed during the site assessment — and we'll give you a straight answer.
What happens during a power cut?
Emergency egress is a life-safety requirement and must always work independently of the access system — that's designed in. Whether entry hardware keeps operating depends on the installation, for example battery backup or UPS provision, which is specified during the survey.
Can one membership open only certain doors, or only at certain times?
Yes. Permissions can be set by membership, time, entrance or location — so a daytime plan can't badge in at 2am, and the staff room stays staff-only.
Can access follow payment status automatically?
Yes — that's the point. When a member joins, freezes, cancels, changes plan or falls outside the payment rules you've configured, their access permissions update automatically. Grace periods and retry behaviour are yours to set; nothing forces an instant lockout on a single failed payment.
Can the same member enter multiple sites?
Yes — permissions can span locations for memberships that include them, without a second member list at each site.
What does installation cost?
Hardware, survey, installation and commissioning are quoted per site after the survey, because doors, gates and existing equipment genuinely vary. Software is priced separately per location.
Who supports a physical hardware fault?
You contact GymFront either way. Software faults are ours end-to-end. Physical hardware faults are handled with the installer or hardware partner responsible for that equipment — we coordinate the fix rather than leaving you to referee between suppliers.
