Payments
Setting up Stripe.
Stripe powers card payments in GymFront — at the desk and on card readers. Connect it once, pair your readers, and you’re taking payments.
01 · What Stripe covers
Cards at the front desk
GymFront splits payments by what they're best at: GoCardless collects all recurring membership billing by Direct Debit, and Stripe handles card payments — drop-ins, day passes, products at the desk, and in-person payments on a card reader. You need both connected before the staff app unlocks day-to-day use.
02 · Connect
Connect Stripe from GymFront
Go to Admin → Setup and choose Stripe (card payments). You'll be taken through Stripe's onboarding: business details, the person responsible, and the bank account card takings should settle to. Have your company number and bank details to hand; it typically takes five to ten minutes.
Stripe verifies your details in the background. GymFront's setup hub shows Stripe as done once charges are enabled — payouts may take a little longer while Stripe finishes its checks.
03 · Readers
Terminal locations and card readers
If you're taking in-person card payments, set up a Terminal location first: Admin → Setup → Terminal locations, one per physical site. Then pair each card reader under Admin → Setup → Card readers — the reader displays a pairing code, you enter it in GymFront, and it's linked to your location.
Once paired, staff can take card payments from the Sell flow and the reader wakes automatically. No reader? Skip this — everything else works without one, and you can pair readers whenever they arrive.
04 · Done
What you should see
The Setup hub shows Stripe, Terminal locations and Card readers as done. From here: memberships bill by Direct Debit through GoCardless, and anything sold at the desk goes on card through Stripe — one ledger, both rails, reconciled together in Admin → Billing.
